What is Fkey?
Fkey is a TIME SAVER!
It lets you use the Function Keys on your keyboard under Windows to simplify repeated tasks.
How to Install:
Copy Fkey in a subdirectory such as “C:\tools\fkey”.
The ini file Fkey.ini must be copied to your windows directory, usually “C:\Windows”.
How Fkey Works
How Fkey Works:
- Fkey works when it is active. Each Function Key can be assigned a specific action like copying text or running a program.
- Actions carried out by a function key are saved in the “FKey.ini” file. Select F12 to do so.
- There are two ways to specify actions:
Copying Text
Say you want to copy a text you write repeatedly. Select F12 to save the text. Just end each line with an equal sign “=”. Your text may be as long as you like.
Start a Program
Starting a Program begins with the KeyWord “Start=”, followed by the Program name – and any parameters with which you wish to start the program
Work with Text
First copy your text into the fkey.ini file.
Press the corresponding Function Key (or F button in the program). This copies the text to the Fkey window AND into your Windows CLIPBOARD.
Now paste it anywhere!
Start Command
For programs found using the current path you simply list the filename, like this: “Start=Winfile.exe”
This starts the file manager.
For other programs you need to enter the complete path, like this: “Start=C:\xyz\xy\xxx.exe”.

Remember, press F12 to edit the “FKey.ini” file.
