Mars is approaching Earth for an almost once-in-a-generation close encounter in late July.
Mars is approaching Earth and will be closest on July 31, 2018, right after opposition on July 27. Mars will dramatically brighten over the coming month to appear as a red dot of brilliant flame in our sky in late July.
So next month the Red Planet will be brighter than any other stars in the sky, and brighter than any time in the last 15 years. And while it is currently only visible after midnight, it is rising earlier every day and will soon be visible in the evening sky.

If you do get a chance to see the orange globe of Mars in our night sky just imagine what it is like on Mars right now, where a huge dust storm is almost covering the entire planet!
